Frequently asked questions
- Which files can it open?
- More than 60 image, archive, PDF, video, and audio formats. The main ones are JPEG / PNG / WebP / JPEG XL / PSD / EXR / SVG / RAW (preview), ZIP / CBZ, PDF, MP4 / MOV / MKV, and MP3 / FLAC / Opus. HEIC and AVIF are displayed through Windows extensions from the Microsoft Store: both need the HEIF Image Extension, plus the HEVC Video Extensions for HEIC or the AV1 Video Extension for AVIF. See the feature list for every supported format.
- Is it really free?
- Yes. All features currently available are free to use.
- How do I use content search?
- Open a folder and type words such as "sunset over the sea" into the search box to see images and videos with similar content. Folders registered in your library are indexed in the background and become searchable by content once indexing finishes. The AI runs only on your PC and never sends your images or search words anywhere.
- Where is my data stored?
- History, tags, thumbnails, and the content search index are stored only on your PC. No usage data is collected, and nothing is sent anywhere. In Private mode, history, reading positions, recent places, caches, and thumbnails are kept only in memory while the app is running, and are never saved.
- Does anything stop working in Private mode?
- Video and audio inside archives (such as ZIP) can't be played, because playback requires extracting a temporary file. Ratings and tags are not saved, so they disappear when you restart the app. Showing only rated pages and bulk rating or tagging are unavailable. Keyboard media keys are disabled so that track titles and cover art never appear in the system media overlay or on the lock screen.
- How do I make it my default viewer?
- In Mekurio's settings, select Open Windows Settings under Default App. Windows Settings opens Mekurio's default apps page, where you can choose Mekurio for each image type. You can also reach the same page by finding Mekurio in Windows Settings → Apps → Default apps.
